Astra Pro

A lightweight WordPress theme that stays out of the way — the foundation we build most client sites on, precisely because it doesn’t try to do too much on its own.

Quick Summary
Pricing
Free version is fully usable on its own; Astra Pro starts around $47–69/year, or a one-time lifetime option.
Why We Recommend It

The best theme is often the one you don’t notice.

A lot of WordPress themes try to be a design tool, a page builder, and a marketing platform all at once — which usually means more code than a site actually needs, and more that can go wrong. Astra does the opposite: it handles the structural basics well (fast load times, clean markup, sensible defaults) and gets out of the way for Elementor to do the actual design work. That division of labour is why it’s the starting point for most builds, rather than a themes-do-everything alternative.

Key Features

Genuinely lightweight core

Adds minimal overhead to page weight, which matters directly for load speed and Core Web Vitals.

Header and footer builder (Pro)

Visual control over navigation and footer layout without needing custom code for common structural changes.

Broad page-builder compatibility

Works cleanly with Elementor and other builders, rather than competing with them for control of the layout.

Perfect For
Business sites built primarily in Elementor or another page builder
Projects where page speed and clean code matter as much as design flexibility
Anyone who wants a theme that won’t need replacing as the site grows
Probably Not For
Sites wanting a fully pre-built design out of the box with no page builder involved
Anyone chasing the absolute fastest possible theme benchmark — GeneratePress edges it out on raw speed
How We Use It

Foundation

Astra is installed as the base theme, with its own styling kept minimal so Elementor controls the actual design.

Structure

The header/footer builder handles sitewide navigation, kept separate from page-level content.

Handover

Clients are left with a theme that’s widely documented and easy for any future developer to pick up.

Alternatives

GeneratePress

Similarly lightweight, slightly faster in raw benchmarks, smaller starter-template library.

Best for: Projects where every millisecond of load time is being optimised

Kadence

A newer theme with a more generous free tier and modern block-editor focus.

Best for: Sites built primarily with native WordPress blocks rather than Elementor
Questions

Before you decide.

Do I need Astra Pro, or is the free version enough?

The free version covers most standard business sites. Pro is worth it specifically for the header/footer builder and WooCommerce controls — skip it if the site doesn’t need either.

Does Astra work well with Elementor?

Yes, it’s one of the most common pairings in WordPress and the combination this studio uses on most builds.

Will switching themes later break my site?

Any theme switch carries some risk if content is tightly coupled to theme-specific code, which is part of why we default to a light theme like Astra with the design logic held in Elementor instead.
